With standard logic
gates , the output is
either HIGH or LOW.
With tri-state logic
there is a third
possible condition, the
high impedance state,
where the output is
disconnected from the
line.
This is useful where
several gates are
connected to a line.
Only one is enabled and
can go high or low.
The others are
disconnected.
