Light Dimmers Circuits
14 Volt Lamp Dimmer (using a pot) - Here is a 12 volt / 2 amp lamp dimmer that can be used to dim a standard 25 watt automobile brake or backup bulb by controlling the duty cycle of a astable 555 timer oscillator. When the wiper of the potentiometer is at the uppermost position, the capacitor will charge quickly through both 1K resistor.
14 Volt Lamp Fader (LEDs or incandescent) - This circuit is similar to the "Fading Red Eyes" circuit (in the LED section) used to fade a pair of red LEDs. In this version, the lamps are faded by varying the duty cycle so that higher power incandescent lamps can be used without much power loss. The switching waveform is generated by comparing two linear ramps.
2 Wire DC Lamp Dimmer replaces Rheostats - 10/23/97 EDN-Design Ideas.....Originally for use in commercial trucks, a low-cost dc lamp dimmer (Figure 1]can control more than 100W of incandescent panel lighting and replaces a high-power rheostat, whose heating darkens instrument panel.… [Design Idea by Kevan O'Meara, KO Systems, Chatsworth, CA]

A Ballast that can Be Dimmed from a Domestic Phase Cut Dimmer. - A system has now been developed, based around IR2156, where ballast is able to operate with minimal flicker over a considerable portion of adjustment range of a dimmer and light output may be controlled over this range from maximum output down to around 10%.

Basic Circuit optimizes PhotoTransistor Bandwidth - 04/09/98 EDN-Design Ideas.....A simple circuit can improve the dynamic performance of a phototransistor for use in low- to medium-speed applications as fast as 100 kbps, such as optical isolation of an RS-232C serial line (Figure 1]. In low-cost applications.....contains many circuits, scroll to this one..... [Design Idea by David Magliocco, CDPI, Scientrier, France]

µC implements Pushbutton Light Dimmers - 06/18/98 EDN-Design Ideas.....A project required building a synchronous-demodulator circuit to track a line drawn on paper….File contains several circuits, scroll to find this one.
1.5 Hour Lamp Fader (Sunset Lamp) - The sunset lamp comes on at full brightness and then slowly fades out over 1.5 hours time and stays off until power is recycled
122 VAC Lamp Dimmer (full wave SCR) - The full wave phase control circuit below was found in a RCA power circuits book from 1969. The load is placed in series with the AC line.
12V PWM Motor/Light Controller - The diagrams are for 12V operation only and there are high side (common ground) and low side (common +12V) versions. The low side version of the circuit uses an N Channel FET.... [G. Forrest Cook]
