Two additional Schmitt Trigger inverters are used as a SET/RESET latch to control the counting direction (up or down). Be sure to use the 74HC14 and not the 74HCT14, the 74HCT14 may not work due to the low TTL input trigger level. When the highest count is reached (1111) the low output...(circuit / schematic design)

Audio Controlled Christmas Lights - Here is a simple circuit to control 110VAC things such as Christmas Lights with low voltage audio. Be careful, high voltage AC can kill you.  “The basic Idea was to have Christmas lights flash with the music. In my design I use an ordinary amplified computer speaker, a diode bridge, and a ‘CRYDOM’ SSR (Solid State Relay). In order to increase the time that the lights were on as well as protect the SSR I used a Diode Bridge to rectify the signal from the amplifier circuit.”

Automatic Power Switch - This circuit turns a “slave” device on when a “master” device is turned off or on depending on  state of S1. The circuit is designed to be reliably and solidly on or off. Some simpler slave switches can mistrigger or trigger partially, ….Designed by Andrew R. Morris

Automatic Speed Controller for Fans and Coolers - During summer nights,  temperature is initially quite high. As time passes,  temperature starts dropping. Also, after a person falls asleep,  metabolic rate of one’s body decreases. Thus, initially  fan/cooler needs to be run at full speed. As time passes, one has to

Back EMF PM Motor Speed Control - Back-EMF refers to using the voltage generated by a spinning motor (EMF) to conclude the speed of the motor's rotation.  This can be used in motion control algorithms to modulate the velocity or to compute the angular distance the motor has traveled over ...(circuit)

Bang Bang Thermostat is Simple  & Efficient - 11/06/97, EDN-Design Ideas:  Perhaps the simplest and oldest feedback loop is the nonproportional, all-or-nothing, "bang-bang" thermostat. Fully turning on a heater when the temperature is below setpoint and off when it's above setpoint is a straightforward example of a servomechanism. Yet, elementary and crude as servomechanisms are, examples surround us in virtually every household-room thermostat, clothes dryer, oven, and aquarium heater, to name a few. The version in Figure 1 preserves the best features of the old bang-bang: low cost, simplicity, and efficiency combined with setpoint stability.....(design idea)
